Hunting vs Store-bought meat

After my last post of state tax holidays, I wondered if hunted meat vs store bought meat is cheaper.

In short, aside from squirrel, the answer is no.

Someone else wondered this very thing and estimated $8/lb for deer or venison. His conclusion:an expensive hobby.

On the flipside, many hunting states need help managing populations of deer, wolf, and so on.

Hunting isn’t about procuring meat, but about enjoying outdoors & competition of the number of antler points. I was on a few trips in my younger years, and for me, it was camping and not combing my hair for a week.
