I watch a lot of HGTV (Home and Garden Television for my overseas readers) and while I enjoy the show Property Brothers, they use too much colour for staging because their designs are for specific people. The designs of Flip or Flop and Fixer Upper are much more like Meridith Baer: fresh, neutral and appealing to buyers.
Here’s a nifty trick I noticed the stagers do:
Use a rug to define the living room by putting a rug HALFWAY down the depth of the sofa. Notice the bottom photo – now it looks pulled together.
Brilliant.
The space looks bigger and cohesive.
You don’t have to spend much either. This 5×7′ rug from Walmart was only $55 USD (versus $1200 at Homegoods or Pier 1) and goes with the pillows from Marshalls Homegoods.
Grey can be more difficult to find because it’s fresher, newer than beige.
Try Craigslist.org also to look for greyish rugs to not break your bank.
*FYI, “Agreeable Gray” by Sherwin Williams is now the most appealing wall colour for buyers.
