I’m obsessed with the kitchens on HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” and Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing”.
Our condo galley kitchen is dark walnut laminate with a dark glass tile backsplash and dark granite. Glass tile back splash is so 2005. I’m seeing a lot of white cabinets and white backsplashes in kitchens now.
A possible inexpensive upgrade at this price point could be painting the cabinets white with Cabinet Coat, replace the backsplash with white, and keep the dark granite.
I may need to enlist the help of an Endorsed Local Provider (ELP) real estate agent for an opinion on kitchens in Midtown: “what is selling? Does a white kitchen matter at this price point?”
Here are some choices:
*Let it be
*Replace kitchen cabinets and granite in white
*Replace granite with white
*Paint cabinets & add mouldings
Until we’re ready to sell, I’m trying out Cabinet White from The Home Depot on our cherry-laminate electric fireplace that I bought years ago that doesn’t “go”.
Here’s the “before”:
Here’s the first thin coat with the fireplace taped off in blue. Sort of “shabby chic”
I mentioned a thin coat because on a vertical surface the paint is very drippy.
I waited an hour.
It took 5 coats and 2 days to get the nice semigloss look but only took 1/2 quart of paint.
Here’s the after with decor and all:
Verdict:
Works but is messy
Would need a “pro” for this.
Wait for an ELP’s opinion.
