This is my current closet.
A foot and a half of clothes.
I used to have a walk-in closet the size of my living room.
I made a classic mistake pointed out by the TLC show “What Not to Wear”: I made my clothes a fantasy:
“oo, I could open the door wearing this!”
“This will be great for a 4th of July picnic/parade!”(it’s been nearly 30 years since going to one).
“If ever I go to the Opera!”
I lived in the burbs- Spring, Texas at the time.
Simplicity is fabulous.
How did I do this?
1. With each item I ask “if I didn’t own this today, would I buy it?” If the answer is no, it goes onto Tradsey.com for sale.
2. For the things I keep, I sort by item and color Left to Right.
Shirts
Skirts
Trousers
Shorts
Dresses
3. These fabulous hangers are life-changing:
4. I cascade like this:
4 black shirts
3 white shirts
3 print shirts
2-3 skirts
2 trousers
2 short dresses
long dresses get their own hanger.
Jackets go above, otherwise they would go to the leftmost side and be cascaded 2 down.
You can buy these hangers at
amazon.com or wayfair.com
A bargain for sanity.
